Planning a trip is not an easy job especially when you go with your family. You have to take care of the food, a place to say and the most important transportation. But one dad left her 14-year-old daughter at the airport after realizing that her passport is expiring.
A family of a husband, wife, and kids had finally found time for a perfect break and decided to go abroad. The couple and three children aged 9, 11 and 14 were all set for their vacation after their dad had saved for years. But the parents forgot a very important detail about transportation.
The father forgot to check the passports and their date of expiry. Though his 14-year-old daughter had already been abroad due to his previous relationship but his younger kids had never traveled. Thus, the younger ones had brand new passports but the elder daughter had an old used passport.
The father had asked his ex-wife to fill in the details of their daughter’s passport online and after confirming that she had an extension of one year he had booked tickets for the trip. Everything was planned and everybody excited until they reached the airport. That is then they realized that what a blunder mistake they had made.
The airlines did not allow the daughter to travel because of their 6-months policy. The passengers should have at least 6 months left on their passport to travel. The traveling plan was non-refundable and his wife said that she would cancel the trip if he did not go with them on the trip. The reason she claimed was that she would not be able to travel alone and handle two kids for her first time.
The father ultimately decided to go on a trip with his wife and the youngest kids. He left his 14-year-old daughter at the airport. He explained, “Naturally, my daughter was very upset and I promised to take her on another trip once her passport was renewed but obviously that wasn’t going to make her feel better.” He arranged for his dad to pick her up from the airport but still, she was upset.
The father even admitted that he was “miserable knowing that I had left my daughter behind.” He even asked his family for what decision he should take and everybody voted for the holiday. Though his daughter does not believe him. He shared “I’m absolutely gutted. Only my younger kids actually enjoyed the trip and my wife and I are extremely upset that my daughter isn’t talking to us.”
Because of doubt, he asked the Reddit readers to whether his decision was right or not? While some said “If they cancelled the entire trip because the ex wife lied about daughter’s passport, there is a strong chance that the other children would resent their half sibling for ruining their trip. They would be too young to understand it wasn’t her fault.”
Others said “She’s 14. All she knows is that dad and his new family left her at the airport.” Another said, “Losing thousands of dollars and missing a big holiday would be totally worth it to me to have ALL my kids with me, and not leaving one behind”.
