Man Drunkenly Changed His Name To Celine Dion And Won’t Switch It Back

Christmas is always a time to celebrate. Even in the light of the pandemic situation where many people had to celebrate Christmas alone this year, this doesn’t mean you can’t get a bit tipsy while listening to your favorite singers and have a night to yourself. Having too much to drink is nonetheless, never a good idea, especially when you’re alone and creative. This person, too, had a great idea while getting drunk on a Christmas holiday, taking ‘new year, new you’ to a whole other level.

It all started when Celine Dion (Nee: Thomas Dodd), a 30-year-old from the United Kingdom, shared an image on 31st December on Twitter where he mentioned he has drunkenly changed his name to Celine Dion. His post reads: “Tier 4 is the least of my worries – I’ve just got home to some post. Apparently, at some point over Christmas, I’ve had one too many vinos and legally changed my name to Celine Dion.”

What’s even funnier is that he didn’t even remember it happened until he got a thick post containing eight copies of a deed poll. He remembered feeling almost passed out after realizing what he had done. So of course, Twitterati had quite fun while it lasted. One commented, “You Should Think Twice about it, I suppose it’s All Coming Back To You Now,” referring to one of the songs by the singer Celine Dion.

In an interview, he mused that he is slightly obsessed with Celine Dion and watched a lot of concerts on the TV. He said, “I can only think I’ve been watching one of hers and had a ‘great idea’ after a few drinks.” He continued saying that his initial concern was how will he tell the HR department at work that he’ll need to change his Email footer.

Now the situation has slightly turned a bit more fun as the new Celine Dion has decided not to switch his name to his former one. He says he is not in a hurry to switch it back and he’ll figure something out. He added, “I tried singing Celine in the shower this morning and I can assure everyone I haven’t inherited her voice or bank balance. If this gets to Céline someone best makes sure I have a defibrillator next to me.” The whole process of changing his name cost about $123.

When his parents got the news, they expectedly weren’t very pleased with their son’s decision, but have now accepted the situation with humor. Since then, Former Thomas has made many appearances in shows such as Ellen, where he was gifted $10,000 to accomplish his dream of becoming a paramedic.

He has decided to keep the name ‘until the next time he has a bit too much to drink.’
