Traveling solo can be scary especially for kids. So, Alexa Bjornson’s worries were justified when she had to send her son who is under the autism spectrum on the flight all alone. But to her surprise, his co-passenger took care of him in a very friendly way!
Kids with autism need special care and attention from their parents. Their needs are different and parents know exactly how to cater to them. But what if the circumstances arise where the parents have to send the autistic kid on a flight all alone. That would demand some extra care!
Alexa Bjornson found herself in a similar situation when her son, Landon Bjornson, 7, had to get on an airplane to fly to his dad. This entire scene stressed her to some extent.
This mom did some thinking and decided to write a message that Landon can handover to the person sitting next to him on the plane from Las Vegas to Oregon.
The note included the details about Landon’s autism condition. She wrote that he will be very curious and will keep asking “Are we there yet?” She put $10 with the note as a thank you for taking care of her son as did not want anyone to feel that they are “stuck” with him.
Fortunately, Landon found a great company in Ben Pedraza during the flight. Pedraza kept him entertained! Pedraza told, “We were cracking jokes, and after a while, he asked me to quit making dad jokes.”
They had a fun flight together. Pedraza clicked a selfie with Landon to let Alexa know that they enjoyed the travel. He wrote a message saying, “(Landon) did ask if we were there yet several times but he was a great travel buddy. We had a good time and played a few rounds of rock-paper-scissors,” Pedraza wrote. “He’s a great kid, and you’re a lucky mom.”
Pedraza did not keep the $10, he donated it to The Autism Society.
Alexa cannot thank Pedraza enough for being so sweet to Landon. We don’t encounter such humble people every day!
